Cardboard bum box gets heavyweight support

In order to allay concerns that a portable cardboard chair weighing just 500g is only suitable for lightweights, Atlas Packaging, UK and European Licence holders of the globally patented Bum Box, has tested it to its limits with the help of two heavyweights from the Barnstable Rugby Club.

The Bum Box, an innovation that offers an affordable and practical seating solution at outdoor events, has significant benefits for both the user and potential sponsors. For the user, it provides a light, portable and easy to assemble seating device which, being made of corrugated board is 100% recyclable and biodegradable. From the point of view of a sponsor, the chairs provide a superb mobile vehicle for branding and message communication.

North Devon based Atlas, specialists in corrugated board packaging, have been granted the exclusive European distribution rights for the Bum Box, an Australian invention, and are planning to promote the concept to marketing and PR companies in the UK over the next few months.

Jason Sharman, Atlas MD commented on the test that took place today. ‘One of the most frequently asked questions from our customers is whether the Bum Box really is sturdy enough to withstand the weight of a fully grown adult. Our latest test shows that this is certainly the case. Our testers weighed 85kg and 123 kg and, as you can see, the Bum Boxes are living up to their promise of supporting a maximum weight of 120kgs.’

Commenting on The Bum Box, Lewis Joce from the Barnstaple Rugby Club said: ‘I’m amazed at how comfortable it is. It moulds to my body weight and shape and actually supports my shoulder blades. It’s not just a gimmick; it’s a proper, comfortable seat! ‘
