Flourish helps Google deliver its Creative Sandbox at Cannes

For the fourth year running, Google has handed brand experience agency Flourish the task of delivering its experiential presence at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

The Google Creative Sandbox has taken over a prime section of beach, and this year the size of the activation has doubled to cope with rising attendances. The Creative Sandbox opened on Monday (16th June) and, as always, is free to access for all Cannes Lions delegates every day of the week.

Free wi-fi, smoothies and yoga sessions provide visitors with the perfect place to relax, with complimentary cocktails – ordered by using different bits of code to create bespoke drinks – also on offer in the evenings. Flourish have teamed up with renowned graphic artist Anthony Burrill to encourage and inspire delegates to get involved with a wide range of activity.

Each afternoon the Sandbox plays host to lightning talks by influential leaders from creative businesses including Ogilvy & Mather, TED, Dreamworks and AKQA.

There are also creative workshops led by the industry’s finest minds, alongside Google and their partners’ latest innovations – including Glass – on show via playful, interactive product demonstrations. Last night (Thursday 19th June) the Sandbox hosted a spectacular Google party featuring a live performance from Rudimental and a DJ set by Goldierocks.

On Wednesday evening, Emeli Sandé performed to Google’s guests during a dinner at the Sandbox catered for by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kitchin.

Flourish creative director Guy Tremlett commented: “We love working with Google, we love the Cannes Lions Festival and we love the process involved with creating an environment that both entertains and communicates to a particularly challenging audience. So we’re very pleased with the results of this year’s activity.”

Amy Brown, head of events, Google EMEA added: “ Cannes Lions is an important event for us each year. Having a presence there allows us to develop relationships with many key partners, and Flourish have done a great job once again in creating an experience that communicates our core message: creativity and technology… better together.”
