Gorilla supplies mobile touring unit to Nando’s and The Bigger Event

Gorilla Marketing & Events has delivered the next phase of Nando’s mobile consumer marketing campaign for lead brand agency The Bigger Event. The completely refurbished van and new build of mobile catering trailer is an example of how Gorilla repurposes existing brand assets to maximise the return on investment for their clients.

Nando’s lead agency and developer of the Nando’s sampling and event retail concept, The Bigger Event, commissioned Gorilla to build a set of sampling hand carts in 2011. These were built and deployed at a number of key events throughout the year and were judged to be so successful that Nando’s looked to extend the concept. Nando’s wanted to go beyond just sampling of food from a cart, to a full on site catering facility to sell food that didn’t require the support of a local restaurant in the cooking process.

A working replica of a Nando’s kitchen, built as a mobile catering unit, would allow food to be prepared on site and provide a commercial return on the investment

Gorilla took delivery of the existing trailer and Mercedes support vehicle and began to design the internal fittings and systems required to provide a fully functioning kitchen. Key challenges that the project had to overcome were factors such as driver and operator facilities, weight restrictions, power and water requirements, maximum use of internal space and how to ensure that all of this could be delivered using the minimum number of vehicles per event.

Although event trialling and testing is still in progress, the indications are that the vehicle and trailer are performing exactly as required with the cooking facilities and trailer layout working as intended. A number of events will now be targeted by Nando’s to maximise sales revenue and brand awareness.
