Kansas Smitty’s, the London jazz and julep bar will travel to Scotland this August for ‘The World’s Greatest Imaginary Jazz Bar’, a month-long residency at The Edinburgh Fringe.
From Monday 1st to Sunday 28th August 2016, Kansas Smitty’s has teamed up with Alba Events to take over the industrial space of Leith’s Biscuit Factory and bring something new to the fringe festival. Named after its resident house band, an eight-piece jazz band of young and hungry virtuosos, Kansas Smitty’s Imaginary Jazz Bar will feature performances from the hottest talent on the UK jazz scene and beyond, delicious Julep cocktails, Classic American Soul Food, talks, tastings and late-night jazz raves.
Kansas Smitty’s house band has always sought to find an unpretentious, fun and approachable space to bring together original music, real people and cocktails. In 2015, the band created this in an intimate basement cocktail bar in Hackney, East London. This August, Kansas Smitty’s are now bringing the relaxed music, entertainment and cocktail offering North Of The Border.
Featuring performances by the young talent that perform regularly at their bar and some of their friends from the wider music scene, The World’s Greatest Imaginary Jazz Bar’s confirmed acts include Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, Bad Manners, CC Smugglers, Sons of Kemet, Swindle and Kansas Smitty’s House Band.
Combining a ticketed concert venue alongside a dedicated cocktail bar, Kansas Smitty’s will offer up a cocktail menu of Four Jim Beam Juleps alongside beers from Tempest Brewery and a range of quality options for spirit mixers. Also on offer will be Classic American soul food from Kansas Smitty’s diner. From 10pm to 3am each evening, the venue will open out and host Kansas Smitty’s legendary jazz rave. A full-on giant party of dancing and live music.
