What makes a good agency leader?

  1. Recognising that you can’t do it alone. It’s the people that make an agency, you need to never lose sight of that and empower your workforce.

What makes your job exciting?

The landscape is constantly evolving, ensuring we evolve at pace while never losing sight of who we are can result in a few sleepless nights.  Increasingly time lines are squeezed and expectations raised, this combination puts huge pressure on us to get it right first time. I feel very lucky to work with such talented people, with the right mindset as despite the pressure, we have a laugh.

What do you consider to be a personal professional achievement?

From an agency perspective I am immensely proud of how we have evolved our offering while never losing sight of who we are. We continue to pitch for, win and retain some of the world’s most famous companies and brands; it makes me incredibly proud when I think of who we work with and the work we do for them. From a personal perspective, although I certainly don’t always get it right, my home life is incredibly rewarding although you may need to ask my three daughters and amazing wife if this is true…

What are your goals for you and RPM?

Doing brilliant work is always front and centre as I believe if you do brilliant work the rest looks after itself.  Ensuring that RPM is one of the best places to work is a constant aim for the senior management team. On a personal note I aim to keep fit, be happy and try to be a great father and husband.

What brand would you most like to work with? Why?

I already feel very privileged that we have the opportunity to work with our existing clients from luxury brands to FMCG to charity brands and start-ups. Being brought up on a farm in Scotland I want to work with more Scottish producers. Inverawe is a new client that I can’t wait to work with.

What is on the horizon at work in the next 12 months?

We have a very clear 12 – 24 month strategy; to continue to hone our offering to reflect our client’s needs, specifically look to grow our shopper offering whilst constantly evolving our experiential work and making RPM one of the best places to work.

Who do you find inspirational ?

Gary Malone OBE – Firstly he is blooming talented, secondly he is making a difference and thirdly he has a fantastic knack of bringing people together and achieving greatness. Sounds glib but I admire anyone who cares about their job, does it to the best of their ability whilst showing humility.
