Peterborough’s Queensgate Shopping Centre has announced the winners of its first ever ‘Growing Greener Awards’ at a ceremony in London, following its successful collaboration with retailers to reduce their environmental impact. The awards, which took place on 20th April 2015 at the London Transport Museum, saw ten retailers being recognised for their significant achievements in reducing their energy, waste and water impacts.Liz Parkes, deputy director of climate change and business development at the Environment Agency, hosted the event.
The winning retailers will have a series of floor vinyls placed outside their store in recognition of their achievements.
Over the past year, retailers within Queensgate Shopping Centre have worked hard in partnership with the centre to make Queensgate as environmentally friendly as possible, through improving and reducing their use of energy and water, whilst boosting their ability to recycle and reuse, – with zero waste going to landfill. Carol Wakelin, Queensgate’s Environmental Manager, said: “It is hoped that the branches within Queensgate will become an exemplar of best practice, with further stores across the UK following their example and improving their environmental credentials too. Each store that has taken part has received a full environmental audit in 2014, and has now been reassessed to measure the improvements that have been made with their credentials shared with senior management for each store. “
