Santa in his sleigh, together with Rudolph and his team of eight reindeer arrived at Peter’s Lane at Liverpool ONE on Friday 20 November.
The giant structure made from 700,000 LEGO bricks ,has previously only been seen at Covent Garden,London.
The installation has been designed and built by the UK’s only Lego Certified Professional, Duncan Titmarsh. The structure took Duncan and his team of helpers 32 days to build and perfect. The Sleigh was transported to Liverpool ONE overnight on Wednesday and the build began on Thursday (Nov 19) using a fork-lift truck.
Like all of the Lego brand’s most complicated pieces, the sleigh began life as a drawing converted through a computer program into a 3D diagram, which shows how to shape it in tiny plastic bricks.
Duncan said: “Human ingenuity is still needed to create the modelling, particularly the curving pieces like the raised hooves of the reindeer. After horrible early experiences of trying to lift half-tonne pieces by hand, these are now built on to steel pallets which can be moved with a fork-lift truck.”
Donna Howitt, marketing director at Liverpool ONE added: “We are delighted the Lego Santa and his sleigh has arrived at Liverpool ONE. We believe this will be really popular with all of our visitors and is a strong addition to our retail offer, ensuring everyone who visits us has the best experience possible this festive season.”
The LEGO structure will be in place at Peter’s Lane at Liverpool ONE until 30th December.
