The Prince of Wales attended the Business in the Community Leadership Network event yesterday (9th December) at East London’s Troxy. As President of the charity HRH joined celebrations about the impact of businesses on social and environmental issues.
The Prince of Wales joined 500 guests including representatives from social enterprises in the UK together with CEOs from companies driving responsible business in the UK, to celebrate the achievement of nearly 3,000 jobs created through Business in the Community’s social enterprise programme. This is a testament to the powerful role of social enterprises to create jobs, stimulate local economies and change lives in London.
The event had two main elements, presentations with theatre style seating on the Lower Ground Floor of Troxy and an experiential Christmas Market showcasing a selection of the social enterprise businesses who have received support from businesses through the charity on the Upper Ground Floor.
HRH took to the Troxy stage to receive a specially commissioned mosaic made by Waterloo based arts social enterprise South Bank Mosaic. The organisation improves London’s public spaces through beautiful mosaic artwork while also providing training in artisan skills for the long term unemployed.
Troxy is one of London’s few remaining independent venues and is owned by brothers Deepak and Mohit Sharma. They welcomed HRH on his arrival to Troxy and were commended for their preservation of the building and work done to keep it as a space that can be enjoyed by the public.
Mohit Sharma, Managing Director of Troxy comments:“I take great pride in the venue’s success, it has had a special place in the hearts of our family for over nine years and we have all thoroughly enjoyed the journey so far. Needless to say meeting HRH is both a huge privilege and a fantastic reflection of how far the venue has come and the work that has been done to transform it into the thriving event space it is today.”
