It comes as children from across Merseyside joined The Fat Controller for a special birthday celebration at the waterfront attraction to mark the 12 months since the family entertainment centre launched as the first of its kind in Europe.

During the celebrations, the competition winners also had the opportunity to meet Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam. Guests enjoyed party food and entertainment before helping to blow out the candles on a giant birthday cake.

Alan Kendall, development manager at Heritage Brand Ventures who own and operate Mattel Play! Liverpool, said:

“It’s been a really encouraging first year and great to see our young visitors having so much fun at Mattel Play! Liverpool over the past year.

“We’d like to thank all of the families who have visited the attraction and supported us. The journey has been phenomenal and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more guests as the attraction continues to thrive.”

Twenty staff are employed at Mattel Play! Liverpool which features three themed zones based on iconic children’s favourites Thomas and Friends, Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam.

Each zone, which has its own individual look and feel, is filled with activities designed to allow children to experience what it’s like to play alongside their favourite characters. The Albert Dock attraction also has a dedicated café, gift shop, party rooms and a green screen.
