Virgin Active debuts musical ‘Sweat Band’

To help combat the post-Christmas blues, Virgin active enlisted the help of a ‘Sweat Band’ to power commuters through the first week of January

The Sweat Band showcased its motivational expertise at Leicester Square playing the UK’s Top Ten Motivating Tracks.

The Sweat Band was formed after new research by Virgin Active found that half of Brits feel physically stronger when they exercise to their favourite track, 63% say music gives them more energy and 33 per cent say their favourite music makes them enjoy exercise more.

One in five reported that listening to motivating music when exercising hard distracts them from the pain of the workout.

The health club also found that over a quarter (27 per cent) of Brits use music to motivate them to get up out of bed in the morning, 16 per cent use it to psych themselves up for a date and 15 per cent listen to music when they are running late or are working to a deadline.

Virgin Active landed on the idea of using the Sweat Band to motivate the public, and to help them feel great, when they combined its findings on the effects music on motivation with additional research that found 43 per cent of people make a resolution each year to get fitter and healthier in the New Year, but one in ten break this in the first seven days.

The UK’s Top Ten Most Motivating Tracks, as decided by a recent survey of gym goers by Virgin Active is:

The Final Countdown, Europe
