London gets a ‘flying visit’ from Interactive Bug Bus with Boots UK Travel Health Clinic to help families learn about Travel Health

With more and more families holidaying in exotic locations and 34 different species of mosquito in the UK (amongst other biting bugs), Brits are now at increasing risk of being bitten by bugs. As part of its mission to champion everyone’s right to feel good, Boots UK has teamed up with arctec at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine as part of the Bug Off! campaign to help raise awareness of the simple steps people can take to help beat the bugs this summer.
Boots UK hosted a travel health clinic on arctec’s Bug Off! Mozzie Buzz tour at Russell Square, London on Tuesday 27th June. The bus was packed full of interactive activities to help families learn about ways they can protect themselves from biting insects both at home and abroad.
Boots Travel Health Pharmacist, Janky Raja, comments: “Come and visit me on the Bug Off! Mozzie Buzz at Russell Square this Tuesday where I’m hosting the Boots Travel Clinic. Some people don’t realise that even if they are holidaying in the UK insect repellent is often recommended, to help avoid being bitten. I recommend using insect repellent containing a high strength of DEET* as well as covering your arms and legs with suitable loose fitting clothing to help avoid being bitten. Those travelling abroad can also visit The Boots Online Quick Check Tool to assess which vaccinations and antimalarial should be considered before going away.”
That’s not all the Bug Off! Mozzie Buzz played host to a variety of insects and other creepy crawlies to view up-close in the Jungle Zone and a Science Zone demonstrated how attractive we are to mosquitoes.
Professor James Logan, Director of arctec at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said: “In some areas of the world insect bites can transmit diseases including malaria and Zika, so it’s really important to get the latest advice on how to protect yourself. As well as travel advice, the Mozzie Buzz is a great chance to meet our mosquito experts you can even get up close to our mozzies and try out an experiment to see how much they like you.”
