Global Champions celebrate at The International Quarter

The International Quarter (TIQ), a Lendlease marketed venue in the Olympic Park area has celebrated its arrival as a major destination with the release of a video, today, showing the recent Global Champions Tour event, sponsored by Longines. Held hot on the heels of the Champions’ League Football Festival, a multibrand sponsorship activation also hosted at TIQ, the feast of showjumping saw the best competitors in the world do battle with several riders from Britain, including all members of Britain’s Olympic gold winning team.

This is the first time that London has been chosen to host a leg of the Global Champion’s Tour and as host venue TIQ was required to build an event that met both the VIP expectations of the stars of the sport and its luxury sponsor, as well as extending a warm welcome to a broader public.
The event culminated last weekend with a spectacular jump off success in the Grand Prix for Britain’s Ben Maher, edging out his Olympic team mate, Nick Skelton. It also catered for a guest list that included Sheikhs from the horse loving nations in the Middle East, and rock royalty Bruce Springsteen, whose daughter Jessica competes on the Tour.

The venue, which is sited alongside John Lewis (Westfield Stratford shopping centre) also brought a flavour of luxury to the visiting public in the shape of a retail avenue that attracted pop-up shopping and flavours from brands such as Harrods and Godiva.

The good result for the British riders in the Grand Prix added to what many have lauded as a success for London. “The show set up was fantastic and to be back in London and in a familiar setting with such success was like reliving the Olympics,” said Rob Hoekstra, Team GB’s performance manager.
