Hungryhouse lauches January Sanctuary to offer respite from ‘New Year New Me’ resolutions

With New Year resolutions and fitness goals everywhere January is the month we’re bombarded with Instagram pics of smoothies, salads and workouts – with no escape from the endless pressures of ‘new year new me.’
But with the longest month revealed to be the worst time of the year to set new goals – and with only 9% going on to achieve them – online food ordering platform, hungryhouse offers January Sanctuary: a refuge to escape the tyranny of Instagram feeds and smug friends, where people can unwind without judgement.
For the last two days of the longest month, the space is divided into half living room, half faux fitness zone. Visitors can work up a sweat with a curry rather than a cross trainer while convincing friends and family they’re sticking to their resolutions.
Alice Mrongovius, CEO of hungryhouse said: “Far from being the best month to try and set new goals, January is the glummest time for people to uproot their routines and eating habits. It doesn’t help when everyone else seems to be at the gym or embracing a strange new green juice diet. The January Sanctuary is a space for Brits to take time out to be their real selves without judgement – while a cheeky picture taken on-site will convince your friends that ‘new year new you’ is still in full swing.”
The retreat is bookable via a two-hour, pay-per-chew service which comes complete with a range of believable props to convince social media followers of visitors’ virtuous intentions – from a life-size gym backdrop, to non-functioning running machines, green juices, and staff trained in the art of the perfect instagram.
In the meantime, Brits can get on with living real life by chilling out on the sofas in front of their favourite TV show, and choosing a tandoori over the treadmill.
The January Sanctuary is open from 2pm-10pm on Monday 29th January and 12pm – 7pm on Tuesday 30th January at White Space, 5 Great Newport Street, WC2H 7JB
