Instagram and DMA challenge marketing industry’s up-and-coming talent

DMA Talent, in conjunction with Instagram, has launched the competition brief for the Marketing Challenge 2019. The annual competition offers university students the opportunity to respond to a live brief from one of the world’s leading brands.
The objective is to encourage businesses to use Instagram Stories in their marketing mix to help drive performance. Students must therefore devise a plan to convince UK-based marketing teams that Instagram Stories have a place within their marketing strategy and will help them to achieve their targets.
Entrants must demonstrate a multitude of skills throughout the process, including the ability to devise and plan a six-month strategy to encourage pick up, to communicate their thoughts to an expert judging panel, and, most importantly, work as a team to provide innovative solutions to one of the company’s most interesting business challenges.
Kate Burnett, MD of DMA Talent said: “Instagram have offered students a fantastic opportunity to feel like a part of their organisation and provide solutions to a real-life business problem. Our mission at DMA Talent is to inspire young people to join the marketing industry and create clear pathways for them to do so. The Marketing Challenge gives us a sneak peek at the next generation of marketing talent and I’m sure this year’s entries won’t disappoint.”
In return, the winners will receive a prestigious prize and industry-wide recognition. As official supporters, Instagram’s Business Marketing team will be a part of the judging panel that will decide the winners in 2019, alongside some of the industry’s leading figures, including members of the DMA and IDM’s (Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing) senior management team.
The Marketing Challenge works with Higher Education institutions to give university students the chance to work on a challenging and real-life marketing brief, provided by the supporting client. The process offers students priceless, practical experience and, for the finalists, the opportunity to meet leading marketers and to win the top prize. This brief will also be used by lecturers across the country as a valuable teaching aid on marketing and business courses in the future.
Jenna Sandoval, North America business marketing lead for Instagram, commented: “We are excited to learn what the marketing industry’s up-and-coming talent has to offer. The winners have a real opportunity to help shape the future of Instagram marketing. Instagram strives to make a positive impact within the community and DMA Talent’s Marketing Challenge is just one area that we are supporting to help source and develop future marketing talent.”
Students have until Friday 3 May 2019 to submit their entrees.
