Marcus Rutherford Foundation and Peugeot Tour arrives at the London Motor Show

Peugeot and the Marcus Rutherford Foundation/Young Adult Cancer Trust were out in force at this year’s London Motor Show, raising awareness of the support network available for young people with cancer and encouraging blood and bone marrow donors to come forward.
The one-of-a-kind Marcus Rutherford Foundation Peugeot Boxer van, donated by Peugeot, was on display as part of the Foundation’s ongoing tour of schools, universities and music festivals across the country.
The Peugeot Boxer is converted as a centre for information and guidance for young people about all forms of cancer, as well as helping willing young adults to test their suitability as blood and bone marrow donors.
The facility has been instrumental in raising awareness among young people about the importance of giving blood and registering as bone marrow donors. The vehicle also has full working capabilities, with the potential to carry out blood tests and to transport blood products.
The Marcus Rutherford/Young Adult Cancer Trust – which was founded by Marcus Rutherford in 2012 shortly before he lost a hard-fought battle with leukaemia – helps young adults with cancer and their families, but also supports research into the causes of cancer and its prevention. To date, the Foundation has given gifts worth tens of thousands of pounds directly to patients in need.
Marcus’s father Mike Rutherford, Trustee of the Marcus Rutherford Foundation, commented: “The London Motor Show is an important event and a pertinent destination for our Peugeot Tour Bus.
“Marcus’s Foundation doesn’t receive a penny from central/local government or other state or private agencies, instead it is run and funded mainly by Marcus’s family, friends, associates and generous sponsors like Peugeot.”
James Parfett, head of communications at Peugeot, said: “Peugeot has travelled across the country with the Marcus Rutherford Foundation in the past two years, and the donated Peugeot Boxer van has been hard at work helping to make life better for young people with cancer and their families.”
“Its appearance at the London Motor Show will give visitors an opportunity to see the facility and to find out how they can help the Foundation with its ongoing work.”
The Marcus Rutherford Foundation Tour Bus was present at the London Motor Show at Battersea Evolution from Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th May.
