Giant scratchcard revealed in Leeds

To celebrate the launch of the new £4million National Lottery Scratchcard, with its biggest ever cash prize pay-out, Europe’s tallest man, Neil Fingleton,  and star of the TV ads, Adam Catterall revealed a giant-sized replica – 500 times bigger than the original.

Standing at an incredible 14 metres tall and 6 metres wide, and taller than the word famous ‘Hollywood’ sign, the jumbo Scratchcard took five days to erect and was unveiled for the first time at the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds. The booking for the event was handled by SpaceandPeople.

Adam was joined by Europe’s tallest man, who at 7ft 7” tall was dwarfed by the huge replica card.  To reach the scratchable area and reveal the symbols underneath, they took a ride up in a 17m cherry picker with a specially designed giant coin, suitable for the task in hand.

A National Lottery Scratchcards spokesperson said: “We wanted to do something really fun to mark the launch of the £4 Million Scratchcard, our biggest game yet, so we have created our biggest-ever replica card.  And at 14 metres tall it is the size of a two-storey house and bigger than the current world-record holder for the biggest ever Scratchcard.”

Commenting on the day, Neil Fingleton, Europe’s tallest man, said: “I’m used to heights but this is unlike anything that I’ve seen or done before.  The giant Scratchcard looks fantastic and is a striking addition to the Leeds skyline.  I’m sure it will continue to cause a stir with shoppers here today.”

The giant Scratchcard is the creation of the Leeds-arm of leading marketing services provider Communisis, and Blackburn-based Europrint Promotions.  Production involved the artwork – which was supplied at the actual size of a Scratchcard – being magnified by over 500% and printed in 14 sections on a large format digital device. The teams worked around the clock to create the one-off piece which used 2.3 litres of ink and took over 15 hours to print and finish.

Gurdev Singh, managing director at Communisis Leeds said: “This was certainly one of the more unusual briefs to receive, and the uniqueness of the project presented some suitably grand challenges. We’ve invested a lot in new production technology over the past few years, so it’s great to put it through its paces with fun projects for a great brand like The National Lottery.”

The £4 Million Scratchcard is perfect for gifting or as a special treat.  The Scratchcard costs £10 to play and is available from retailers across the UK.

At the time of launch, it offered over £120 million in total cash prizes including four top prizes of £4 million each, and has the best National Lottery Scratchcard odds of winning any prize, at 1 in 3.3.
