Ikea to open DIY pop-up restaurant ‘The Dining Club’

Swedish retailer Ikea is opening a fully immersive dining experience in Shoreditch – a ‘Do-it-Yourself Restaurant’ where the diners run the diner, becoming the chefs of their own restaurant.
With people spending less time cooking and eating together in the UK, Ikea are giving the foodies, wannabe-cooks, kitchen-novices and fine-diners the chance to express themselves and impress their friends in a restaurant where they will have their very own sous chef and maître de. They will also have 20 of their friends as extra hands, making a meal to remember.
The Dining Club’s doors will open from 10 – 25 September in Shoreditch.
Under the expert supervision of a head chef, diners will orchestrate an intimate foodie experience in a homely kitchen environment to mimic an actual dinner party, but one where diners can host many more guests than usual.
Free of charge, the nation’s food loving entertainers can book their slot to host a brunch, lunch or dinner, where they will take over the restaurant, choosing their menu from a range of modern sharing dishes, including some Scandinavian classics, and will even have the restaurant named after them. The cleaning up will be taken care of too, so hosts and can spend quality time with their friends.
Patrons can also book a spot in the ‘Food for Thought’ workshop area where interactive master classes are hosted by an array of guests including Instagram star Pixie Turner and Great British Bake Off winner Edd Kimber covering topics such as 1 ingredient 4 ways, Swedish Baking, Fermentation, Clean Eating, The Future of Food, Sustainable Eating, Food Styling Tips and more.
Those without a booking for The Dining Club can still visit the onsite Ikea shop with homewares for sale. Also on display will also be kitchen showrooms reflecting kitchens of various sizes and styles. Upon visiting, the general public will also leave The Dining Club with an Ikea treat.
