Currys creates online engagement campaign with low energy meal recipes

The nation wants to speed up their cooking in an attempt to help lower their energy bills. Currys is on hand to help and are launching their first set of recipes that could save consumers up to £78 a month in energy bills due to the products used, created in partnership with food writer, Jack Monroe.

60% of Brits reveal they want to cook a meal in less than 45 minutes to reduce energy usage and cut down bill costs. Currys’ nine new recipes cut down on both preparation and cooking time, resulting in up to 8 hours saved a week, totalling to 32 hours a month!

A perfect fit for the colder months ahead, the dishes were curated in collaboration with renowned food writer, journalist and activist, Jack Monroe, known for campaigning on food poverty issues. The recipes were devised using Currys energy-saving products including the Tefal Turbo Cuisine Pressure Cooker, Ninja Foodi MAX Dual Zone Air Fryer, the Breville Halo Steam Air Fryer and the Crock-Pot CSC063 Slow Cooker.

Food Writer, Jack Monroe said, “I love experimenting with food, so being given the opportunity to do so, while saving people time and money on their energy bills with Currys, was a no brainer! Not only that, but I also have a real passion for reducing food waste, and these recipes we’ve developed alongside the products that go with them do just that, without compromising on food quality.

Recipes include a guilt-free, sausage and mushroom risotto using the Ninja Foodi Max Dual Zone Air Fryer, sticky soy and lime chicken using the Tefal Easy Fry Dual Zone Air Fryer and Grill and even a vegan chocolate and pear cake using the Breville Halo Steam Air Fryer.

The recipes help you reduce your energy bills, save time, and even help reduce food waste. 71% of Brits confess to wasting food every week, with 31% of the nation saying their weekly cost of food waste can range from £6 up to a whopping £50, with 15% of people throwing away over £500 per year as a result of food waste.

Autumn is also synonymous with warm, cosy dishes, with Brits voting for the top dishes they are most likely to cook in autumn, some of which have been recreated by Currys to help save its customers both time and energy.

Bex Dixon, Kitchen Expert at Currys said, “What’s better than cooking a delicious meal, but in less time than usual and that saves you money on your energy bills? With finding out a staggering 71% of us admit to wasting food every single week, these recipes use the perfect products to reduce this massively.

We’ve partnered with the incredible Jack Monroe to curate nine autumnal recipes – some mirroring Brits’ favourite picks for the colder months to come – but also allowing the nation to SAVE time when making them, as over half of us want to cook for less time too. Find them hosted on our website here and enjoy!”
