Independent global marketing and media consultancy Ebiquity has announced the appointment of Alan Rutherford as global chairman of its media practice.
Rutherford will take up his new position this month, working closely with Group CEO Michael Karg to continue to transform Ebiquity’s client offering, deepen Ebiquity’s relationships with agency networks, represent Ebiquity at high profile industry events, and drive collaboration with industry bodies.
Rutherford’s extensive 30-year career in the media, advertising and marketing industries encompasses fourteen years at Ogilvy/WPP, where he ran global business including IBM, Guinness, Kodak and Sony PlayStation and was one of the founders of ‘the Network’, Ogilvy’s media arm and a forerunner to WPP’s Mindshare.
He subsequently spent nine years at Unilever, where, as global head of media services, he led the global roll out of the first 360 communication planning approach and toolset, and spent four years at Digitas as Global CEO. He was also the founding client of FirmDecisions (Ebiquity) and MediaLink.
Speaking about his new role, Rutherford commented: “As an independent advisor, Ebiquity plays an important role – working alongside agencies – in ensuring clients achieve their desired levels of media transparency. I have been very impressed with Ebiquity’s unrivalled mix of talent and capabilities, and I’m looking forward to partnering with Ebiquity’s global teams in helping advertisers meet their strategic and tactical media objectives.”
Michael Karg, CEO, Ebiquity, added: “It is a real pleasure to bring Alan into the broader Ebiquity family. Having someone with his level of experience on both the agency and client sides, and internationally across Europe, the US and China, will ensure that we continue to leverage our services in Consulting, Performance, Compliance, and Analytics to optimise our clients’ investments in marketing and media on a global scale. I am delighted that he has joined our leadership team.”
