Live Life Give Life sets up for Skulfie exhibits

Live Life Give Life, the UK’s leading organ donation charity has launched a new campaign “The Day of the Living” which aims to raise awareness of donation, remember those who donated, and celebrate those who are only living because of donations.

Taking inspiration from the colourful Mexican festival The Day of the Dead, in which ancestors are remembered with a vibrant and colourful festival; The Day of the Living campaign will raise awareness about the importance of organ donation with the same energy, optimism and joy.

The campaign is a nationwide celebration of donation, stressing the good the generous act can do. Activities and events will be taking place nationwide leading up to the “The Day of the Living” which takes place on the same day as the Day of the Dead – Saturday 1st November.

Vibrant ‘Sugar Skull’ designs form part of the festivities and supporters will be encouraged to make themselves up as Sugar Skulls, wear Sugar Skull masks, and share their ‘Sugar Skull Selfies’ or ‘Skulfie’. The campaign is encouraging people to create their own images and use the hashtag #Skulfie. The campaign also features a video created by renown bodypainting artist Emma Allen and featuring Kirstie Tancock, a two-time double lung transplant recipient.

Finally, the campaign will be supported by a week long exhibition in London created by the Skull Appreciation Society featuring a number of sugar skull artworks created by various artists. The Exhibition starts 31st Oct.

Mandy Venters CEO of Live Life Give Life said ‘We wanted to do something positive. Organ donation should feel like an opportunity not an obligation. The chance to do something incredible. To save or change the lives of others when you’re not around anymore.’

Jamie Thompson and Roydon Turner, creative directors of Live Life Give Life said: ‘It’s great to do something so colourful and optimistic around organ donation. We didn’t want to guilt people into signing up. We wanted to stress the amazing good that donation can do’ ‘We’re sure this campaign is going to grow year on year, raising more awareness and saving more lives’
