Londoners Reconnect with ‘Taken for granted’ Dads

A pop-up phone booth appeared in Central London on June 16th to give passers-by the chance to reconnect their fathers, inspired by the nation’s favourite fictional father Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson).

Agency Premier were behind the activation, which saw an American style phone booth, created by Sketch Events , installed on Neal Street in Covent Garden, giving Londoners the opportunity to call their dads for free and make plans for Fathers Day, with the chance to instantly win thousands of pounds worth of prizes inspired by Taken 3.

Shoppers, workers and tourists took the opportunity to call their fathers, after being informed of a  survey that revealed 7 out of 10 dads feel they are constantly taken for granted by their children.

The survey of 2,000 Brits found that one in three of us only call our fathers when we need something, with two thirds having no idea when Fathers Day is.

The results also found that 8 out of 10 dads merely want a phone call from their son or daughter this Fathers Day, which is exactly what the Taken 3 phone booth offered them.

Philistia Glenn, 22, who took advantage of the phone booth, said: “I saw the survey stats on the phone booth, which did make me feel a bit guilty for taking dad for granted.  I don’t think I even saw him last Fathers Day, and had totally forgotten that it was coming up again. I do rely on dad, particularly for DIY, but he never really expects anything back.  Calling him today made me realise that it’s nice just to talk to him and catch up without an ulterior motive!”

The Taken phone booth featured the image of Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson), who has been voted the nation’s favourite fictional dad, narrowly beating Homer Simpson who came second.  Mills’ character is most famous for the many dramatic phone calls he shares with his daughter Kim, often saving her from peril at the hands of kidnappers.

The activation coincides with  Twentieth Century Fox’s Home Entertainment’s release of  Taken 3 on DVD and Blu-ray
