Momentum’s merchandisers help Sainsbury’s with 100,000sq ft store

Momentum Instore has undertaken the most recent project in its 13-year relationship with Sainsbury’s – providing merchandising support within the retailer’s temporary Heaton Park store and massive 100,000 sq ft permanent store.

This is not only one of Sainsbury’s biggest stores to date, but also the largest grocery store over just one floor in the UK.

Momentum Instore provided merchandising support in three phases, with three different teams, to coincide with Sainsbury’s work schedule. Due to the size of the project the phases overlapped in order to allow the new store to open on time. Phase one included the launch of the 18,000 sq ft temporary store and phase two the closure of the existing store. The third and final stage was to provide support in the remaining area of the store prior to its launch, starting first with merchandising the 27,000 sq ft general merchandise area.

The agency provided a team of over 60 staff skilled in areas such as replenishment, dressing, on site development and ticket dressing along with four team leaders. These were split into day and night shifts, working around the clock to ensure the store was fully merchandised and opened on time. The work in the main store was carried out over a four-day period and as part of the project Momentum Instore’s team also provided merchandising support outside of the GM area.

Colin Hope, central support manager, Store Development at Sainsbury’s, said:  “Momentum Instore has provided support to Sainsbury’s for the last 13 years. They provide trained team leaders and colleagues that assist in the delivery of our investment programme. The company’s teams support us in a number of key areas, including merchandising, ticketing, ordering and replenishment. This trained, skilled and flexible resource assists us in the delivery of great retail standards throughout our new and investment stores.”
