Sky Sports and RPM Let Ryder Fans Putt Like Pros

RPM recreated Gleneagles’ famous 18th hole at the 2014 Ryder Cup to give fans the experience of putting under pressure, whist using special pro putters.

The brand experience, situated at the entrance to the Tented Village at Gleneagles, drew in the crowds with a putting competition, where each fan could choose from a selection of bespoke Odyssey pro putters.

The experience, which consisted of a putting green set against a huge curved panoramic image of the 18th hole, used historical footage of classic Ryder Cup putts and a compere who generated atmosphere amongst onlookers to recreate the feeling of a pro player putting under pressure. Winners were named on a leaderboard and the top performers were entered into competitions where they could win either a Sky Sports package or an all-expenses-paid trip to Las Vegas for a one-on-one putting masterclass with Sky Sports’ world famous golfing coach, Butch Harmon.

Once fans had completed the putting experience, they could find out more about Sky GO and NOW TV packages at the 10mx10m stand’s Genius Bar. Giveaways included a free weekly subscription to NOW TV so that attendees could stream live content on their handheld devices whilst out and about on the course, or when they returned home. The stand also played host to a 4K screen showing Sky’s Ryder Cup Ultra High Definition coverage, plus a masterclass and Q&A session with Sky Sports’ Golf presenters Mark Roe and David Howell. Fans could also post their experience onto social media through RFID technology.

Sky’s Promotional marketing controller, Vanessa Woodard, said: “We tasked RPM with creating an engaging brand experience that would showcase our golf heritage (this year Sky Sports celebrates its 10th Ryder Cup), our exclusive live coverage, as well as the ways in which you can watch Sky Sports wherever you are with Sky GO and NOW TV. The activation was incredibly successful, with an experience that was both informative and interactive.”
