Broadwick Live has announced that it is part of the Association of Independent Festival’s (AIF) Drastic on Plastic campaign to eliminate single-use plastics in festivals by 2021.
More than 60 independent festivals are joining together to:
- ban the use of plastic straws on-site this season as a minimum first step – and eliminating all single-use plastic at their events by 2021
- launch the campaign digitally on Earth Day – Sunday 22nd April. It will see many of the participating festivals’ websites ‘wrapped in plastic’ for 24 hours. Visitors to the websites will be faced with key facts and messages about the extent and impact of our everyday plastic use, along with links to resources from campaign partner RAW Foundation, a UK sustainable development charity.
Each has made this AIF Campaign Pledge:
“As an AIF member participating in this campaign, we the undersigned recognise the devastating impacts that the prolific use of single-use plastics is causing in the environment on a global scale. We also recognise the leadership role that festivals and events/the festival community can play in inspiring and driving forward positive, solutions-focused change towards a sustainable future. We pledge to eliminate single-use plastics (e.g bottles and straws) at our event(s) within 3 years by 2021, and to promote reuse solutions wherever practically possible.”
As part of Broadwick Live’s commitment to green policies, all festivals and venues within its portfolio (Field Day, Rewind, Y Not, Truck, FN6, By the River, Printworks, Snowbombing, Snowbombing Canada, Hideout, Standon Calling, Kendal Calling, SW4 and Victorious) will be introducing a number of initiatives from this summer, including but not limited to:
Examples for some of many initiatives a number of the festivals are looking to roll out.
- Encouragement for customers to bring/buy refillable water bottles
- Festivals will put on extra stand-pipes with access to free drinking water
- No single serve sachets for condiments
- No plastic straws
- No polystyrene
- Eco cups where possible
- Incentives for customers to keep campsites clean
- Tent recycling
- Use of tent rental companies in most
- No plastic bottles back of house for staff
- Biodegradable glitter at glitter stations
