Gary Lineker scores for Qatar Airways and Barcelona fans at Westfield

At the weekend FC Barcelona fans had the chance to participate in a virtual shoot out with Spain’s La Liga Champions and win prizes by “spotting the ball” via the airline’s new Facebook app at Westfield London in Shepherd’s Bush.

The event was also boosted by the attendance of Match of the Day’s centre forward Gary Lineker.

Saturday and Sunday, 9-10 November, Qatar Airways welcomed visitors and fans alike to Westfield’s North Atrium for a penalty shoot out against a virtual FC Barcelona goalkeeper. Visitors were also be able to participate in the ‘Spot the Ball’ Facebook App, based on the popular newspaper game, with entrants able to win two Economy Class flights anywhere within the Qatar Airways network from London Heathrow or Manchester Airports.

“Our experiential event at Westfield is intended to bring the world of Qatar Airways and FCB to life,” said Richard Oliver, country manager for Qatar Airways in UK and Ireland. “It was only natural that Qatar Airways as one of the World’s best airlines supported FC Barcelona, one of the world’s best football teams”

The interactive penalty shootout is judged on both the speed and velocity of the kick which will be recorded on a leader board. Each day the player at the top of the leader board was awarded an FC Barcelona football shirt whilst other prizes including footballs were available to win throughout the day. Players were also be able to access scores and photos after taking part on Facebook to see if they achieved the fastest goal. Top scorers had the opportunity to win prizes including Qatar Airways flights, an FC Barcelona shirt and mini co-branded footballs.

The event was brought to life with assistance from brand experience agency psLIVE, recently named new agency of the year at the FMBE Awards, 24th October.
