Sam Torrance reminisces at the Belfry with fans and Caldeonia Best

Golf legend Sam Torrance recalled some of the most iconic moments of his 40-year career when he returned to The Belfry to film a series of videos with Caledonia Best.

Torrance, who enjoyed three victories in four Ryder Cup appearances at the renowned Midlands resort, was filming for a new Caledonia Best promotion for Scottish golf fans.

One winner and two friends will win the chance to join Torrance for an unforgettable round on the famous Brabazon course and relive some of his career-defining moments.

The Caledonia Best Clubhouse Captain famously holed the winning putt for Europe in 1985 and was part of the side that retained the Ryder Cup in 1989, before returning to the venue once more to Captain the European Team to glory in 2002.

The promotional films see Torrance share emotive tales of his Ryder Cup memories and also recreate his much-celebrated putt on the 18th green from 1985, a moment he described as “life changing”.

“It’s great to be back here at The Belfry. I have so many fond memories of the resort and the golf course from my four Ryder Cups here – whether it be holing the winning putt in 1985 or witnessing Paul McGinley sink that famous 10-footer in 2002,” remarked Torrance.

“It will always have a special place in my heart, and without doubt, it is definitely the spiritual home of the Ryder Cup in Europe, and the recent developments just bring everything in line with some of the world’s best golf resorts.”

“I’m very much looking forward to welcoming our Caledonia Best winners here in September and getting back out on the Brabazon again.”

John-Paul Murphy, head of brands at Tennent Caledonian Breweries, commented: “Sam has such a strong affinity with The Belfry, therefore it made perfect sense for us to offer golfers the opportunity to play alongside him here, and relive some of his most famous moments. The Belfry provides the perfect backdrop for our campaign, as it allows our winners to experience the resort’s Ryder Cup heritage, whilst offering everything you could ever want from a luxurious resort, both on and off the course.”
