Mobile Technik provides Pop-up for BBC in Manchester

Broadcasting live for the first week of Manchester International Festival, the BBC popped up in the heart of Manchester’s Albert Square to transmit live radio and TV in Tubbo, a purpose built temporary event structure from 2nd – 9th July.

The artist-led Manchester International Festival, which has taken place biennially in the city since 2007, showcases new works from across the spectrum of performing arts, visual arts and popular culture. This year pop-up unit specialists Mobile Technik provided  the structure and logistics for a host of live broadcasts include Radio 4’s Front Row, Radio 5 Live’s Phil Williams and R6 Music’s Radcliffe and Maconie.

Tubbo’s transparent and modular design is an innovative choice for brand activations and pop-ups; the blank canvas means it’s easily branded and logistically, is quick and straight-forward to assemble. The transparency of the structure allows brand messages to be carried further, encouraging interest and intrigue from those passing by.

The structure was branded with the suggestion “If you love something let it show” as a way of engaging with festival-goers and inviting them to write and design on the pop-up.  Inside, the structure was fully kitted-out with the required broadcast equipment, air-conditioning and sound-proofing panels, ready for the host of presenters.

Billy Smart, Brand Development Manager at Mobile Technik, commented; “Our work at MIF has highlighted the versatility of Tubbo as a temporary event structure. Our team helped provide  necessary solutions, including a bespoke air conditioning kit (needed for the heatwave!) and acoustic panelling to provide the optimum sound quality.”

Mobile Technik, which specialises in supplying trailers and temporary structures for events, is the sole distributor of Tubbo in the UK.
